How to register

Registration for your IELTS test is quick and easy

Step one - Find your nearest IELTS test location

With more than 1,600 IELTS test locations in over 140 countries, there is bound to be one near you. Find my nearest centre.

Step two - Register for your IELTS test

You can register and pay online or download an application form to print, complete and submit to your local test centre.

Don’t forget to provide a copy of your valid identity document. You will also need to present the same identity document on the day of the test.

Step three - Your IELTS test is booked

Once your application has been processed, your test center will send you a written confirmation of the date and time of your test. The Speaking test, however, can be completed up to a week before or after the other tests. Your test center will advise.

Registration Acknowledgement

If you have paid online

1. You will immediately be able to view an on-screen acknowledgment of receipt of your

application that you can print.

2. Simultaneously you will also receive an auto-email acknowledging receipt of your application.

3. Your test date will be confirmed, subject to seat availability for the date you applied for

at the time of receiving the confirmed payment.

4. Such confirmation will be sent to you within three working days of receiving the confirmed payment.

If no seat is available for your first preferred date you will automatically be transferred to your next preferred test date that you indicated in your application form (as per your consent provided in the Terms & Conditions when you registered online

Test Venue Details

Candidates will get their test venue details at least 3 days before the test by email and SMS.

If you do not receive this information within the stated time, you must contact your respective Centre immediately.

Candidates will be expected to bring a copy of their venue email to the venue on test day.

Test day information

 Timings

Candidate reporting time: 1130 hrs

Test start time: 1300 hrs

Approximate test ending time 1600 hrs

 Late Arrivals

A candidate who arrives late (after 1245 hrs) will not be allowed to sit for the exam and is also not eligible for a refund or test date transfer.

 Proof of Identification

You must bring the ID document that you registered with on the day of the test with the venue letter and the stationery required is to be brought in clear and transparent stationery cases only.

Important Note:

You should bring the same ID document to the test, the one you have quoted on your application form. If you fail to do this, you will not be allowed to take the test. No result will be issued to candidates who are involved in impersonation and/or misconduct. IELTS Regional Team and Receiving Organisations named on the application form will also be notified of this action.

IELTS Terms and Conditions (Global)

You must

1.1 provide proof of your identity (passport or National Identity Card) at registration. Contact the test center to confirm which type of identity document is accepted.

1.2 inform the test center of any changes to your identity document before the test date. If you do not do this you will not be allowed to take the test and you will not be eligible for a refund or transfer

1.3 bring the same identity document on the test day as the one recorded in your application. If you do not do this you will not be allowed to take the test and you will not be eligible for a refund or transfer

1.4 arrive at the test center before the scheduled test starts time. If you arrive late, you will not be allowed to take the test and you will not be eligible for a refund or transfer

1.5 leave all personal belongings in the designated belongings area. The only items you may bring into the test room are your approved identity document, standard pen(s), pencil(s) and eraser(s), and a bottle of water (label-free). All electronic devices and all watches must be left in the belongings area and must be switched off. You may be electronically scanned for devices at any time during the test day.

1.6 consent for your identity to be verified both at test registration and on test day.

This may include:

having your photograph taken. You will be required to temporarily remove any covering from your face. Any test taker who refuses to have a photograph taken will not be allowed to sit the test and will not be entitled to a refund.

The photograph taken by the test center will appear on your Test Report Form;

providing a sample of your signature;

having your finger scan taken;

1.7 keep only the following items on your desk: your identity document, pen(s), pencil(s), eraser(s), and a bottle of water (label-free);

1.8 tell the invigilator at once if you think you have not been given the correct question paper or if the question paper is incomplete or illegible.

1.9 raise your hand if you need to ask the invigilator something.

1.10 attend all four sections of the test (listening, reading, writing, or speaking). If you do not attend all four sections, you will not receive an IELTS test result.

1.11 inform the invigilator on the day of the test if you believe that your performance may be affected by ill health, by the way in which the test is delivered at the test center or for any other reason. If you have a complaint relating to the delivery of the test, you must submit your complaint to the test center before you leave the test center on test day. Complaints relating to the delivery of the test will not be accepted after test day.

Your IELTS test result

2.1 Results are issued by centres, usually 13 days after the test for paper-based IELTS or 3–5 days for computer-delivered IELTS.

2.2 You will receive only one copy of your Test Report Form. Replacement copies are not issued in the

event of loss or damage.

2.3 The Test Report Form will be issued in your name as it appears on the identity document used at registration.

2.4 Your result may not be issued in the required timeframe if the IELTS Test Partners decide that it is necessary to review any matter associated with your test or the administration of your test. To assist any investigation, you may be required to provide writing and speaking samples. In exceptional circumstances, you may be required to re-take one or more IELTS sections.

2.5 Your result may be canceled after it has been issued if any irregularity is identified. You may be required to re-take one or more IELTS sections.

Cancelling your IELTS test or requesting a transfer

3.1. Please refer to the IELTS Cancellation policy to check your cancellation and transfer rights. You will be asked to acknowledge you have read and agreed to the IELTS Cancellation Policy.

Declaration

You acknowledge that the IELTS test is jointly owned by the IELTS Test Partners.

You certify that the information submitted in your IELTS test application is complete, true and accurate.

You understand that if the details submitted are incomplete your application may not be processed.

You understand that if you engage in any form of malpractice, or do anything that might damage the integrity and security of IELTS, you may be banned from taking the IELTS test in the future.

You understand and acknowledge that, whilst you may be asked to select your preferred format for the speaking test (either In-Person or by video call at the test center), the test center shall ultimately determine, and inform you, which format shall be used for your speaking test.
