If You Have a Lot of Time

The effective start is often challenging while writing an essay. So, we are going to teach you some brainstorming techniques. These will help you either you have reasonable time or shortage of it. Both situation would be soothing for you if you follow techniques.

Brainstorm in a Group

A group discussion often leads you to know more ideas than you think it alone. As different people have different views so you have opportunity of gathering these. So, Brainstorming refers to the idea of a mob or group of people.

Let’s suppose you are asked to write an essay in a class. So, you are advised to talk with your friends about that topic so that you may collects reasonable data for essay.

Moreover, you should argue each other idea while such brainstorming is going on. According to research, people who performed the criticism brainstorming can gather more than 20% ideas then those who don’t do it. So, a little argument is suitable for creative person.

List, List, List

You can follow the 100 rule in case when group brainstorming is impossible. So, list down all the ideas you have in your mind..even an absurd one.

Let’s suppose you are asked to write the essay on feminism and women rights, and your idea is to relate it with the feminist march took place in US in the early 21st century. Freely write down. By gathering eccentric ideas you may induce the growth of great ideas.

No doubt, assembling 100 ideas in a short time is not possible but you may gather 20 to 30 ideas. Just focus them and write up.

Let your Mind Wander

Take the break of 10 to 15 minutes if your brain is fed up. Cool! Relax for some moment! Have some diverting activity like playing game. Research says that you can perform task more effectively if you play a video game for 15 minutes during your job.

So, gather ideas with relaxed mind so you can perform well.

If you're going to be in a Time-Crunch

Two conditions might be given while writing essay. You either have to write with in time limit or have a plenty of time such as you are writing it on your couch in your home.

So for timed test How you would perform all these brainstorming, outlining and actually writing the darn thing. Let’s have some practice to deal with such situation.

Position Papers

In case of position paper, when you are given a situation in which you have asked whether you are agree or disagree with a given argument. For instance: 'Write an essay in on “whatever doesn't kill us only makes us stronger” and give your point that you are agree or disagree with author’s viewpoint.

So, you should break the question before brainstorming as:

  • 1st: things that haven't killed me and did make me stronger.
  • 2nd: things that didn't kill me but didn't make me stronger.
  • 3rd: things that didn't kill me, but it remains to be seen if I'm any better for it.

Here, you can try a modified version of the 100 rule if you have 15 minutes to think. That means put up all the ideas on paper that comes to your mind whether it be appropriate or not. Write examples for each 1st, 2nd and 3rd.Then, work on the one that seems to you more efficient. If you get stuck, Stop!.Re-read the content! Get fresh! And write again.

Synthesis Papers

Other scenario you may be given in which you have to develop a position from different sources, like this:

'Read the following sources, then form an essay on whether you believe that reading comic books hurts or harms children.'

Here, you are required to spend more time on brainstorming. So, initially read the text carefully and try to draw some points. Then calculate your points as per the pros and cons of it. Then go back to passage to withdraw some more supportive material so to come with stronger examples. Focus and develop essay by those points. This will surely acts as assistant while writing such essay.
