How Is the SAT Essay Scored?

You are given the passage to read and to analyze the author’s argument on SAT Essay. SAT essay have 3 categories which are scored by two people individually ranges from 1-4 score. Finally, these scores of each category would be added.

What Do the Scores Mean?

Your college will get the idea of your reading comprehension ability, your analyzing skills towards an argument and your knowledge of some English grammar conventions. In this way your college would judge your aptitude.

Reading:

  1. (1) It is considered inadequate. It lacks the comprehension of the main idea. There are too much errors and very few quotations.
  2. (2) It is Partial standard. It represents that you have understand the main point of the text. But you have not grasp it properly.
  3. (3) It is the Proficient stage. The main idea is clear to you. You have pointed important details, but you have left some important poet and quotations.
  4. (4) It is the best and Advanced level. Your comprehension of the passage's and its main ideas is according to the text. You have used quotations and paraphrases in your essay

Analysis:

  1. Inadequate level 1: Your essay is lacking real analysis and supporting of the claims.
  2. Partial stage 2: Analysis is made but in an adequate manner.
  3. Proficient level 3: Here analysis is done adequately, but not quite enough as it could be.
  4. Advanced step 4: It is the best level of analyzing text. Your response is given comprehensively and completely, contains reasonable relevant, supporting details and represents your ability to analyze an argument.

Writing:

  • 1 (Inadequate): It lacks of introduction, conclusion and central theme as well. Several errors and poor vocabulary is used here
  • 2 (Partial): Here several grammatical errors and Undefined Phrasing is used. Repetition and wordiness may have present here.
  • 3 (Proficient): It is much better than previous. Here the grammar is used correctly but something is misused.
  • 4 (Advanced): Here All is well. Theme is given, grammatical errors are omitted, writing style is soothing and good vocabulary is used.

How Do I Send My Essay Score Report?

Your SAT and essay score report would show automatically on your account within said limit. There is no need to worry about that. First your MCQ’s scores come and after 2 to 3 days essay scores would be received.

You can send your score report free of cost within first 9 days of your scores received. You can also purchase additional copies of it through college board.
