The Test Day

Test Day Prep

You have employed your best efforts for the preparation of the GRE, so that you may be able to do well on the test. In this lesson, you'll get some inevitable advice for the test day preparation.

Sleep Well

You must be mentally and physically alert on the test day and during the test-taking. After exhausting exercises day and night for the preparation of the GRE, you must take ample sleep the night before the test day.

Here's how to manage your sleep to make sure your brain is running at full capacity on test day:

  • You know better than any other that when to sleep and when to wake up. You must wake up in time to eat breakfast without rushing and then get to the test center at least 15 minutes early.
  • You have already done the best things for the highest GRE score. Studying and cramming just before the test on the test day will be not more than sabotage. Even, touching the books the night before the test day does not impart an addition in your test score. However; it might increase your stress.
  • It is better to do something relaxing, like watching a comedy movie or hanging out with your friends. Then, go to bed early enough to have a good full night of sleep before you have to be up in the morning.

Preparation and Gear

Get everything ready the night before you go to bed, double-check your test center location and print out directions if you've never been there before. Print out your admission ticket, too, if you haven't already. Then put the following items in the bag you'll be taking to the test the next morning:

  • Printed copy of Admission ticket
  • Location to the test center
  • Photo ID (Passport is mandatory in some countries like Pakistan)
  • Pencils
  • Calculator
  • Water bottle and a snack

Test Day

After you wake up, here's the plan:

  • Eat breakfast. You might not be very hungry in the morning before the test, but you don't want to run out of energies halfway through the test. Well, the fruit is good on the side, but you'll also want something with protein, like eggs, or bacon.
  • Leave early. Plan to get to the test center at least 15 minutes before the test starts. Leave at a time that will get you there comfortably, even accounting for any red lights, detours, accidents, or other minor delays. If you get there early, you'll just have a few extra minutes to relax and get settled in.
