What Is a Complete Sentence?

A sentence that must have two essential parts: a subject and a verb is called complete sentence.

  • Subject

It is a noun that may be a person, place, thing, or idea. It tells that why sentence is written.

  • Verb

The part of the sentence other than subject is called the predicate

Examples of Missing Subjects

Let’s see some incomplete sentences:

  • ‘Visited to hill.'
  • ‘Moved in the rain’
  • 'worked hard.'

Let’s complete above sentences:

  • ‘I and my friend visited to the hill.'
  • ‘The vehicles moved in the rain’
  • 'They worked hard.'

Examples of Missing Verbs

Now in case of missing verbs:

  • 'The expert artist picture.'
  • Four large pizzas.'
  • 'The athletes yoga.'

Let's add some verbs:

Now in case of missing verbs:

  • The expert artist painted picture.'
  • Four large pizzas are topped by cheese.'
  • 'The athletes practiced yoga.'

Sentence Fragments

Sentence fragments are those of the incomplete sentences. So, why should we use complete sentences?

Despite of talking, written communication lacks of body language and facial expression so we are unable to convey complete message through incomplete sentences. So, to make reader capable of understanding about what we want to say we should write complete sentences that consist of both Subject and predicate.

We have discussed that complete sentence must have two essential parts i.e., Subject and Predicate. Subject represents the doer of an action and verb shows that which action is being performed by the subject. Use of both is necessary as missing of one would lead the sentence remain incomplete.
