Now college board has practiced some changes in the old version of SAT. Now passages are given on SAT from which you have to answer the asked question. So, read the whole passage while keeping the pnctuation conventions and subject-verb agreement under consideration. It will help you in identifying errors with sentences. Read the sentences before and after the undoubted one and try to understand the nature of sentences. These all strategies would help you a lot.

Let’s have a passage for practice. Follow the above strategies and not only identify error but also try to rectify it.

A mob of whiskery boys, in formal dress and white, watches in hand, blend with girls, some wearing veil, and others unveiled were gathered in courtyard, the floor of which was marbled.

Look at the underlined part. Does it seems right. If yes then you have to select the “No Change” option provided on SAT. Otherwise identify the correct one from the options.

  1. others unveiled were
  2. others unveiled, were
  3. others unveiled was
  4. others unveiled, was

So for choices,

  • in A, 'were' is the verb, but here the subject is mob. As it is singular, so were is not preferred. So, A is incorrect.
  • The same is the case with B.
  • Look at D. As in sentence there is description of mob which must be enclosed in commas, so D is best one as it posseses it.
