Practice With Improving Paragraphs For The SAT

Improving Paragraphs

SAT has revised its previous version by march 2016 to introduce some new concepts. So, SAT has not provided the individual questions of improving paragraph rather it has provided all the question in new passages of Writing-language skills.

So, to get the skills of improving paragraph has become important. Here you will work with two sort of examples.

An Easy Example

Let’s work on simple wxample:

I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.

I dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

I have a dream today!

Here the underlined part is “I dream that my four little children”.

Here are four choices to check:

  1. I dream that my four little children
  2. I have a dream my children
  3. I want my four little children
  4. I have a dream that my four little children
  • A is by default the same as mentioned in passage. But if we look on it we come to know that the passage style is present perfect (the event that has happened). But A is in simple present tense. So, eliminated.
  • B too is gone as it has omitted the words like “my four little children”
  • C is in fact totally mismatched from the text theme.
  • D is correct as all is well here.

A Tougher Example

SAT is concerned about the paragraph building ability of the test takers. So, besides the easy one example here we are going to practice a bit tough one:

We the people of the US, to regulate the accommodated Union, experiment Justice, Guarantee domestic Placidity, Cater the common defence, Boost the general Welfare, and Procure the Blessings of Autonomy to ourselves and our offsprings, enacted and establish this Organisation for the United States of America.

Here “Guarantee domestic Placidity” is underlined you are asked to put it:

  • After 'experiment justice'
  • After 'Welfare'
  • After 'Regulate’
  • After 'America'
  • Here the right answer is choice A as the underline part is on the right position in the text. As A is same as given in context so No change or “After 'experiment justice'” have considered.
